What's this all about?

My name is Olivia and I am a student of Indiana University. I have lived in Indiana my entire life. Also, I can count the amount of times I have ventured outside of the U.S. on one hand. Even more unfortunate, I would say that these endeavors outside of the U.S. can be boiled down to nothing more than a van ride to the all inclusive resorts and cruise ships that I have seen the world through. Thankfully, my view of the world is about to change. I will be studying abroad in Sevilla, Spain next semester and I have created this blog for all my family and friends to share in my experiences while I am living in Spain. I hope that you are able to authentically take part in my journey throughout Spain during this next semester!

Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla y Cádiz

Last night we went to Sevilla's symphony in the music theatre right across the bridge. Apparently, the Sevilla Symphony is considered one of the best in all of Europe. They performed a lot of Russian music and they put on a very good show. I really enjoyed it.

Today I went on an excursion with CIEE to visit the city of Cádiz. This city is considered to be one of the oldest cities is Spain. The cathedral there was built even before our big Gothic Cathedral here in Sevilla. Cádiz is on the Atlantic Ocean, so the water was very cold. But I enjoyed our little tour of the city as well as our bit of beach time we squeezed in.

Before the start of the show; Real Orquesta sinfónica de Sevilla

This dude's bald ponytail combo had to be captured

Memorial in Cádiz built in 1812 to commemorate the invasion of Napoleon and the peace that took place afterwards

Central Plaza in Cádiz

Ayuntamiento de Cádiz; Hercules is carved into the stone at the very top. He is said to be the founder of Cádiz

Pier picture of the ocean

I know that you can't see it very well but I assure you, this is a John Deere tractor...in Spain.

Cool door to an old house in the barrio de Pópulo

Cádiz cathedral; our tour guide said that it was started out in Baroque style but finished in neo-classic. You can't see very well in this picture but there are two totally unmatching types of stone that make up this entrance.

Main "pasillo" en la catedral de Cádiz

Clearly I like taking pictures of ceilings

crypts of catedral de Cádiz...ew

Tomb de Santa Victoria; to my direct right is her body...totally preserved and not decompoed at all. I couldn't bring myself to snap a picture of her. It was pretty gnarly.

Monstrance used to parade around the body of Christ during Semana Santa

A cool Mary statue; there are several lutherans in our program and Sara and I have trouble explaining to them our non worship but adoration of Mary.

Another cool building in the Plaza de San Antonio

¡Vamos a la playa!

I attempted a panoramic photo on this one; there are two castles (castillos) and each end of this beach that used to be forts

Another picture for Javi; I usually always find one for him.
