What's this all about?

My name is Olivia and I am a student of Indiana University. I have lived in Indiana my entire life. Also, I can count the amount of times I have ventured outside of the U.S. on one hand. Even more unfortunate, I would say that these endeavors outside of the U.S. can be boiled down to nothing more than a van ride to the all inclusive resorts and cruise ships that I have seen the world through. Thankfully, my view of the world is about to change. I will be studying abroad in Sevilla, Spain next semester and I have created this blog for all my family and friends to share in my experiences while I am living in Spain. I hope that you are able to authentically take part in my journey throughout Spain during this next semester!

The Meiers (and Javier) en Sevilla

This past weekend my family came to Sevilla to visit me!! It was so awesome that they were able to come here. My Aunt Shannon was nice enough to pay for my boyfriend's plane ticket here too. He came with my family and stayed with them and he also visited his cousin who lives in a city called Marbella, which is fairly close to here.

I am so glad that everyone was able to come here to see me. I am sad that I missed Thanksgiving, this godforsaken country has no pie... So not cool.

I come home to Indiana on the 22nd of December, ready for Christmas!! Sara and I will be spending 10 days traveling around after our program ends, so that is why we will be coming back so close to Christmas time.

The pictures of my crazy family here in Sevilla speak for themselves. I love them all and I am so thankful to have them. I love you guys and I will see you all in 24 days!!

Meier Family en route to Sevilla at the Indy Airport. This is what I got when I asked for a pre-departure family photo...

Las Setas. The wooden sculpture right near their apartment

Sunset and Nativity scenes. Spanish people go waay out of their way to make overly complete nativity scenes, all these little shops are for selling nativity scene characters

We lost Dad and Sophie for like 2 hours and they were in the sacristy messing around... turds

Sophie jumped into my picture at the perfect time to photobomb it like this. Haha

And then Dad decided that he needed to recreate it...

I am so glad that everyone came to visit me. I miss you all and I'll see you at Christmas dinner!!! I request pie and buffalo dip, both of which do not exist in this damn country. haha

Maurruecos

Sara and I went to Morocco this weekend with our program. All CIEE Liberal Arts students chose an interest group at the beginning of the semester and CIEE plans all these activities for you to do throughout the whole semester and at the end of the semester each group goes on big trip. We were in the "Expresión Cultural" group and so we have been doing activities like going to the symphony, having Flamenco lessons, having volunteer concerts, learning about photography and also about food and "la cultura gitana" (gypsy culture).

So we took a bus to Algeciras, Spain, then we took a ferry boat from the Port of Algeciras to Ceuta, Morocco, and we took one more bus from Ceuta to our hotel in Tetuan. We stayed in our hotel in Tetuan for the whole weekend but we took that same bus and visited downtown Tetuan on Friday, Tangier on Saturday, and Chefchaouen on Sunday. I had so much fun on this trip, so tiring though. It was definitely a cultural expression though! Here are some pictures of our trip!
